IKEA HACKED

Project management

Problem

People hack their IKEA furniture every day, which poses a challenge for IKEA since they can no longer be held responsible for the security of these modified pieces. To address this phenomenon, IKEA decided to take an artistic approach, as many artists use IKEA furniture as the material for their creations. IKEA wanted to showcase these pieces in their museum in Älmhult.

Process

After participating in and winning the pitch, we had a clear foundation for the exhibition's concept. It was a mix of interactive installations that allowed visitors to become artists themselves and create their own pieces digitally, alongside showcasing more examples of art pieces that were not part of the museum's physical collection. We developed the installation in close collaboration with two curators from the museum and conducted several user tests and workshops throughout the development of the exhibition.

My Role

I was the project manager and a user tester for this project. I maintained close contact with both the client and the museum curators, aligning their expectations with our creative process. Additionally, I was responsible for ensuring a cohesive theme throughout all parts of the exhibition and for overseeing and managing the designers at YOKE.
